The base just sits there and the tank sits on the base and next to the motor. If the motor starts to vibrate it resonates and starts the tank shaking and you get a very loud blast. We have tried rubber bands, folded pieces of newspaper and weights to try to stop the blast, the humidifier will quiet for a bit, but then it will initiation to shake over again and get loud.The manufacturing key would have been to add some soft rubber bushings as a way to detach the three pieces.I have approved a different manufacturer's humidifier and will not miss this one once the replacement arrives.I cannot urge this to any self unless they suffer from or want to suffer from hearing loss.

We had two of these and they were loud, but worked fine. I had one running through the nighttime for my daughter's cough when it caught on fire. I heard a pop, the machine turned off, and a horrible smell of burning plastic started coming starting the motor. I heard some crackling noises and ran it to the bathtub where I ran water over it until I heard sizzling. We were using it according to manufacturer's directions and there was plenty of water in it. Needless to display, I threw gone in cooperation machines. I shudder to think what might have happened if I hadn't caught it aptly gone.

We bought this less than 6 months ago for both our daughters. Needless to say I'm calling the company because they reek. Every time we use them (on the lowest setting) it will leave a pond of water around it. It almost ruined our daughters dresser but we caught it in time. It is noisy but tolerable for our girls as it drowned out other outside noises for them. Also can't clean it well.

I use my humidifier time around and it has worked for me for 3 years currently. I have used the lukewarm mist and filter kinds in the past and they are a joke. I fill it about 2/3 of the way up, so more than 17 ounces, and it works fine. It also lasts all day on high filled this much.The water flows out at a pretty high rate on high, and I keep it on medium at work so no one thinks my desk is on give somebody their cards. The blue LED is not noticeable during the day. The water evaporates quickly and I haven't had so much as a drop land on my desk. The only signal it makes is a slight whir and on high the water sounds like a gurgle, but goes away on medium.I wish the sticker with the product data wasn't on the front but I'll probably just peel it rancid. The dial to control it is on the back and it would be nice if it was on the front. Finally the opening in the spout could be larger so the moisture spreads around a little more. Rory McIlroy fends off Rickie Fowler, Sergio Garcia to win British Open

On a closing Sunday of great golf at the 143rd British Open, played over the picturesque Royal Liverpool links near the Irish Sea, champion Rory McIlroy did what he had to while everybody else went low.

McIlroy shot 71 and it was low enough.

The 25-year-old from Northern Ireland won by two shots, collecting his third major title and thrilling the fans of his home United Kingdom.

His 71 on the par-72 links course wrapped up a 72-hole run of 66-66-68-71271 and effectively held veteran challenger Sergio Garcia and rising star Rickie Fowler at bay all day.

McIlroy was one of two top 10 finishers who failed to shoot in the 60s in the final round. Victor Dubuisson shot 70 and shared ninth place.

"I'm happy that I gave myself enough cushion," McIlroy said, "because there were a lot of guys coming at me, especially Sergio and Rickie."

Those two shared second place at 15-under 273. Garcia closed with a 66, Fowler with a 67.

Right behind in fourth place was veteran Jim Furyk, a former U.S. Open champion, who shared honors for low score of the day at 65. Marc Leishman shot the same and finished at 276 to tie for fifth, and Shane Lowry also had 65 and shared ninth at 278.

Others going low on yet another day of unseasonably mild climates and low wind were former Masters champion Adam Scott, ranked No. 1 in the world, with a 66 for 276; former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel with 67 for 277; Edoardo Molinari with 68 for 277, and Graeme McDowell, a former U.S. Open champion, with 67 for 278.

But it was McIlroy with the big smile and the Claret Jug afterward.

"It feels absolutely incredible," he said. "It's sort of cool that they put your name on it even before you get it."

The engraver had a bit of a break this time. McIlroy entered the final round with a six-shot lead.

He even overcame a rowdy spectator who, on the 16th hole, pushed the young Irishman's patience over the edge.

"He was giving me grief all day, actually," McIlroy said. "And I sort of put up with it for the first 15 holes, and then he deliberately coughed in my backswing on the 16th tee. I still hit a great drive. But I heard it halfway down and I knew who it was. So I turned and got him chucked, thankfully."

The spectator was last seen surrounded by police officers, who were accompanying him elsewhere.

McIlroy was last seen tapping in a two-inch putt for the victory, which added the British to his already achieved U.S. Open (2011) and PGA Championship (2012) wins. He joined Tiger Woods, a 14-time major winner who is looking for more, and Jack Nicklaus, who holds the record with 18 major championships, as the golfers to win three major titles by age 25.

Garcia twice cut the six-stroke lead to two but lost any real chance of catching McIlroy when he left a shot in a greenside pot bunker on the 15th hole.

"Obviously, 15 was a mistake," Garcia said. "But like I said before, when you know you can't make a mistake, it's hard."

Fowler said that his friend McIlroy avoided the pressure of a close finish by playing the right way.

"He drove it well all day," Fowler said, "and didn't really put much pressure on himself. Once he drove it in the fairway on No. 16 and gave himself an easy birdie there, it was going to be tough to catch him."

It was Fowler's second straight runner-up finish in a major. He was second to runaway winner Martin Kaymer in last month's U.S. Open at Pinehurst. Fowler is the only player with top-five finishes in all three majors this year.

Asked about his emotions after this one, Fowler pointed to the biggest plus.

"Two words: Ryder Cup," he said.

He will be a lock for Captain Tom Watson's team for the match against Europe in Scotland in October.

Two players not yet a lock are the two most prominent U.S. players, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Each will need substantial points from the PGA Championship at Valhalla in Louisville, Ky., on Aug. 7-10. Otherwise, they can make the team as one of Watson's three captain's picks.

Woods and Mickelson made the cut here. Woods had a closing 75 for 294, which was, interestingly, five shots worse than Watson's final score. The 64-year-old Watson closed with a four-under 68.

Mickelson, the defending champion, also finished with a 68 and shared 23rd.

The only clear thing I can say in this area this humidifier is that it looks best than those big boxy ones. The most important question is that of responsibility. Three parties are possible: Pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine, Russian regular army soldiers operating on the wrong side of the border, or Ukrainian military elements fighting the first two.

President Obama on Friday said that the surface to air missile that downed the jet was fired from a location under control of the separatists. That doesnt necessarily mean it wasnt fired by Russian or Ukrainian army operating in the region -- although pro-Russian units have down several Ukrainian planes in the same fashion, including a AN-26 military transport on Monday.

Both sides have blamed each other, but everyone agrees that it was a Russian-made SA-11 Buk missile. The simple fact that it was Russian-made, however, doesnt rule out Ukrainian use, as the country has always relied heavily on its former Soviet partner for its weaponry. U.S. intelligence officials have told NBC News that they believe the missile launcher originally belonged to Ukrainian forces but was seized by separatists.

And Ambassador Samantha Power at the U.N. Security Council on Friday said that the aircraft was "likely downed by a surface-to-air missile, an SA-11, operated from a separatist-held location in eastern Ukraine."

Meanwhile U.S. officials have long believed that Moscow is pulling the separatists strings although President Vladimir Putin insists that the militia men are not within his control.

Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby told reporters on Friday that "it strains credulity to think that (the missile) could be used by separatists without at least some measure of Russian support and technical assistance."

How will the investigation proceed?

With wreckage strewn across a six square miles in the remote and dangerous area of Eastern Ukraine, its unclear if international investigators will be fully able to do their jobs. Separatists have a tenuous grip on the region, and there were reports of gunfire even after the crash.

There were reports that the pro-Russian militia men had taken the planes black boxes. Separatist leader Aleksandr Borodai first told the Associated Press that they didn't have them, then one of his aides said eight devices had been found -- but a Boeing 777 would typically only have two black boxes. If the separatists do have the black boxes, it's unclear what they will do with them.

President Obama on Friday insisted that the rebels allow international investigators access to the area, and one lone agent with the NTSB and two FBI agents were sent to the area.

But unlike more mysterious airline disasters where planes disappear or fall to Earth for unknown reasons, the basic cause of MH17s demise is fairly certain.

"What the NTSB investigators come up with isn't going to be the most relevant piece, said Michael Leiter, NBC News National Security Analyst. Far more important is the intelligence piece. What we see form overhead imagery and the like about where this missile came from and who fired it."

Could the pilots have done anything to save the plane?

A major goal of any investigation is always to prevent future disasters, but theres not likely much the pilots could have done.

"They had zero warning, zero -- They were in the middle of a word and they were gone. Thats how quick it was, Anthony Roman, an aviation and security expert and former commercial pilot and flight instructor, told NBC News on Friday. "There are no systems on a commercial airliner that can detect a military missile. There is no possibility, there is a very low likely hood they even saw it. Its travelling at three times the speed of sound.

Even given the outside possibility the pilots had seen the missile coming right at them, there would still no hope.

"A triple seven is like a lumbering cargo plane, you start to turn it and she takes her time," said Roman.

But why were they flying over such a dangerous area in the first place?

Some have pointed blame at the flight plan, saying that commercial aircraft shouldnt be flying over Eastern Ukraine, which is turning into a war zone. Malaysia Airlines officials pointed out that 55 flights took the same route the day before and it had been approved by international authorities -- but way back in April the FAA had prohibited U.S. airlines from flying over Crimea, which is near by.

After Thursdays crash, that order was expanded to cover Eastern Ukraine.

"I find it pretty remarkable that a civil airline company if this aircraft was on the flight plan that they are flight-planning over an area like that," Robert Francis, a former vice chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board told the Associated Press on Friday.

What consequences will there be?

If it is determined that separatists acting completely on their own shot down the plane, it could spur an international alliance to go in and rout them out but since Russia is almost certainly behind them, its doubtful anyone would want to start World War III just yet.

More likely, are even more of the sanctions that the U.S. and European Union have already levied on Russia.

"The new U.S. sanctions that the president put in place a few days ago are really in response to a view that Russia has not backed down at all, it has sent troops and it has sent specially weaponry, like these surface to air missiles to the separatists, said Leiter. So, from that perspective, the U.S. knows hes been doubling down, the question now for the intelligence community will be: Is there any crack in that? Does he look at this situation and say this is so bad, that there might be an off-ramp to deescalate. I dont think thats the most likely outcome given Putins background, but I think theres at least some chance, and thats the leadership-intention piece that the US intelligence community will try to discern over the coming days.

It is also possible that a case could be made to prosecute militia men, or even Russian officials, in the International Criminal Court for war crimes/crimes against humanity -- but Russia has never been a member (neither is the United States anymore) so they aren't subject to the court's jurisdiction.

An ICC case is not impossible, but it is unlikely for both procedural and substantive reasons, Rebecca Hamilton, an expert in international law who teaches at Columbia Law School, told NBC News.

The United Nations Security Council could conceivably try to punish Russian officials as well -- but Russia, of course, has veto power over anything the UNSC does.
