After a few being, our first unit isn't effective very well anymore, but we just bought another for what you'd pay for just the filter of a more expensive humidifier.We have a large humidifier for the main spaces of our house; this aerosol is too small and not meant to run continuously all winter long. But when someone has a cold, this goes in the bedroom for the night and works pefectly. We've never used any medicines with it, so I can't comment on that feature, but it produces steam and humidifies a room well.
