Netherlands vs. Chile: Live Player Ratings

Louis van Gaal's Netherlands side beat Chile 2-0 in Sao Paulo to qualify top of Group B.

The Dutch manager's second-half substitutions paid off in a contest that had been extremely tight and scrappy before then.

In his first real contribution after coming on Leroy Fer put Holland up 1-0 with a terrifically taken header.

Chile's search for an equaliser resulted in their being caught out in stoppage time. A long ball forward found the run of Arjen Robben, who wonderfully rounded the opposition's defence and then picked out Memphis Depay at the back post to seal the 2-0 win.

Ratings and a word or two on each player's performance are below.

Netherlands Half-Time Analysis

Jasper Cillessen: Little to do with Chile's best chances going wide of the mark.

Daryl Janmaat: Got forward well at times but found things a little tougher defending his own flank.

Ron Vlaar: Dominating the Chile attack in the penalty area.

Stefan de Vrij: Decent enough but showing signs of Chile attack getting at him.

Daley Blind: Largely in control but has not been able to do as much going forward as he might have liked.

Nigel de Jong: Aggressive and strong as usual. Winning a number of tackles but doing some chasing too when Chile spread the ball around.

Georginio Wijnaldum: Very quiet, not made the most of his starting opportunity yet.

Dirk Kuyt: Industrious as you would expect in fulfilling more defensive duties.

Wesley Sneijder: Pretty quiet too, bar some nice passes and set-piece deliveries.

Jeremain Lens: Not of Robin van Persie's quality but he has been eager, putting Chile on the back foot.

Arjen Robben: Some great work bringing the ball forward but has not found his finishing touch yet.

Netherlands Full-Time Analysis

Jasper Cillessen: Chile put further pressure on Holland, but the goalkeeper was rarely tested.

Daryl Janmaat: Got up and down the pitch again; decent enough for his team.

Ron Vlaar: Barely allowed Chile a sniff at goal.

Stefan de Vrij: Solid overall.

Daley Blind: Booked in the second half; mostly good work again as Chile struggled to get beyond him.

Nigel de Jong: Toeing the line between aggressive and cynical in his work maybe, but his tackling helped ensure Chile did not have it all their own way.

Georginio Wijnaldum: Little of note on the ball, but he put a decent shift in.

Dirk Kuyt: A good shift from the versatile Kuyt; did his job.

Wesley Sneijder: Still classy when he gets involved, but those moments were rare.

Jeremain Lens: Linked up nicely with those around him at times but did not really threaten by himself.

Arjen Robben: Excellent assist for Depay's goal; was kept quiet for large periods but always looked to run at Chile when he could.

Substitutions

Memphis Depay: Great running to get in position to tuck away Holland's second goal.

Leroy Fer: Excellently taken header; little else from the midfielder, but it did not matter.

Terence Kongolo: On late for Kuyt; too little time to really make much impact.

Chile Half-Time Analysis

Claudio Bravo: Rarely called upon but was there to make a couple of tidy stops.

Mauricio Isla: Plenty of energy but not causing the Dutch too many problems.

Eugenio Mena: Provided great width down the left flank, putting in some good crosses.

Gary Medel: Typically physical stufffrom the defender.

Francisco Silva: Competitive and tough in the early going; up for the battle.

Charles Aranguiz: Involved but largely unremarkable.

Eduardo Vargas: Good movement, spreading the play particularly well.

Chile Full-Time Analysis

Charles Aranguiz: Involved in the building up of moves but not much more.

Marcelo Diaz: Used the ball well when he had the chance.

Felipe Gutierrez: Came off at half-time.
